Foreword - Natasha Wood, Curator and Host
Patient 'C's wound had just healed and was still quite fragile when he told me he was planning a trip to Ghana. "I've always wanted to go," he said excitedly, "this is my chance". My heart sank. He would be so full of being in Ghana, of meeting relatives, visiting the country and immersing himself in the culture that he would forget all about his wound and walk around far too much. "What did you heal his foot for?" said a senior colleague, "so he could sit around in a recliner chair for the rest of his life?" I remonstrated that the wound would open up again. "Then you will help him heal it again. Give him the advice, tell him the risks, but if he's going, then let him go. Give him your blessing... and maybe some flucloxacillin."
