Foreword - Natasha Wood, Curator and Host

Visiting patient 'A' at home one day, I was packing up to leave when her chatty tone suddenly changed. ‘I’m scared of dying on my own’, she whispered, holding onto my arm. 'A' was an elderly, frail woman and I was about to leave her lying alone in her bed and locking the door behind me. I knew that whatever I said would stay with her long after I’d left. I realised that I needed help with something far greater than infection control. I needed the inspiration and support of professionals who were used to living with the idea of death, and who grappled with it, like I was in that moment, and as we all must in the end.

Recorded at The Cockpit, London, April 11th 2026.
