Foreword - Natasha Wood, Curator and Host
Patient 'B' hadn't followed any of the advice I'd given her the week before and the wound was getting worse. She appeared disinterested, right up until the time to leave. Then her questions came on like a flood. Why wasn't the wound getting better? What could be done? What did I think? What about the other foot? On and on it went... Was it really more advice she wanted? She never followed any of it. More love seemed closer to the mark, in the sense of care and attention, but I couldn’t be sure. It wasn’t something I could ever have asked her directly. And what is love (as opposed to good advice)? Why is it so hard to define when we all need it so much - a close second to oxygen, water and food - just to keep us alive? Is it in our cells? Does it hold us together? Should it be part of a treatment plan? And how can we give it away to others (in a 20 minute appointment, 13 times a day) without using ourselves up?
